May 13-14th the first Globe BowlBash Freakshow blew the minds of the crowd that gathered around Europe’s deepest pool situated in Malmö Sweden. Local organizer John Magnusson agreed that it was a heavy session and a convincing opening of the newly build Stapelbaddsparken. Skateboarders from all corners of the globe travelled to the south of Sweden to deflower the three-meter-deep concrete crater with vertical walls all around.
Besides the veterans Nicky Guerrero and Jussi Korhonen a lot of youngsters joined the contest. Twelve-year-old Alex Hallford from Nottingham England rode the pool for the first time but mastered the steep transitions in no time, pulling frontside airs in the deep-end in his second run. An eight-year-old kid from Florida USA, named Alessandro, shook the crowd in awe with powerful lines. Somewhere halfway the contest, legend Christian Hosoi arrived and watched Sebastian Daurel charging the pool at full speed, making it look like a video played at fast-forward. Local Enrico Petralia showed radical and spontaneous skateboarding with front side 5.0’s over the stairs and blunts to fakie in the deep-end. Nicky Guerrero’s amazing board control and trick-repertoire left others behind and put him in second place. Winner Mattias Nylen was obviously in good shape, pulling insane front blunts in full force, beating his former master Nicky in the final jam.
The five highest ranked skateboarders of the Globe BowlBash in Malmö qualified for the Finals that will take place in the Area51 skatepark in the Netherlands. The next qualification event will take place in Hamburg Germany on 3 and 4 June. After that two more qualifications will follow in Burnley England and Algorta Spain.
