Nicholas Cornell wins Globe BowlBash Burnley Qualification in bankrupt Interact skatepark.
July 15th and 16th, the third qualification of the ‘Globe BowlBash’ took place in the Interact skatepark in Burnley. Professional and amateur Skateboarders joined the contest with temperatures reaching up to 35 degrees Celsius outside the skatepark. A skateboarding audience went mad witnessing the highest level of skateboarding seen at a BowlBash in 2006 so far. A new generation seems to take over pulling tricks with so much speed and style that some of the ‘old schoolers’ stand little chance. The final battle was exciting, with 5 riders showing absolute reckless behavior. Stephen Roe (20) performed flawless lines with so much speed and souplesse, pulling the longest smithgrinds trough the deepend corners. Unfortunately Stephen broke his arm in the last seconds and had to go to the hospital right away. Stephen got fifth, won some cash prices and qualified for the Grand Finals. Sam Becket (14) behaved like a man claiming so much bowltime and space in the jamsessions. As polite as this young fellow is, his skateboarding is absolutely brutal. He claimed 4th place. Local Josh Parr (14) got 3rd and amazed everyone with a huge bag of tricks. This kid has the style of a man, pulling big stalefishes and frontrocks in the deepend, pivot to fakies and bluntslides all in one run. Jasper Tattersall (15) was seriously on fire, not holding back an inch. The interact bowl is huge, but Jasper made it look like a bathtub racing from one side to the other in no time, flying tailslides over the loveseat and pulling huge airs in the deepend. He earned 2nd place. Eighteen-year-old Nicholas Cornell from Newport pulled everything out of his closet. And there is a lot in there, like crailslides revert over the loveseat, frontside rodeo’s and disasters on the vert-wall, to name a few. Nicholas Cornell wins the BowlBash qualification in Burnley convincingly. The five highest ranked skateboarders of the Globe BowlBash in Burnley qualified for the Finals that will take place in the Area51 skatepark in the Netherlands, October 13-15th. The next qualification events will take place in Algorta Spain, August 26-27th and October 14th in Eindhoven, the day before the Grand finals.
The results (qualified for the Grand Finals)
1. Nicholas Cornell (18 UK)
2. Jasper Tattersall (15 UK)
3. Josh Parr (14 UK)
4. Sam Becket (14 UK)

Best trick: Darryl Cashman, Backside Tailslide
Underneath this spectacle Interact skatepark is in serious financial trouble. That serious that if no help from the council or industry comes quick, the Interact skatepark won’t be able to survive over the summer months. The Interact skatepark houses the biggest indoor bowl in Europe. Closing of the park would be a big loss for the skateboard community and the city of Burnley.
