ANDY SCOTT WINS GLOBE BOWLBASH FINALS’, 15th OCTOBER EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS.
October 14th and 15th the Grand Finals of the Globe BowlBash took place in the South of the Netherlands and goes into history as a memorable skateboard event. Europe’s best bowlriders battled it out in the legendary Area51 MU-skateboard-bowl for the Globe BowlBash 2006 title in front of a crowd that went hysterical. Andy Scott from Bolton England showed an incredible performance and took the 2006 Globe BowlBash title home.
With four qualification events in Sweden, Germany, England, and Spain earlier this year Europe’s best bowlriders were selected. Saturday October the 14th, 30 more riders entered the last qualification contest, to qualify for the 2006 Finals the day after. Alex Giraud, BowlBash winner of 2005, was one of them and was competing while still being in the process of recovering from a broken ankle. He managed to qualify and be one of the 24 riders to enter the Finals on Sunday. It was clear that the level of skateboarding was extremely high. After a weekend of sessioning, 5 riders had worked themselves into the Final heat. Anders Tellen from Germany showed consistent and powerful skateboarding with powerful moves and got fifth. Long time favorite John Magnusson from Sweden rode spontaneous, showed great lines and a big bag of tricks with a kamikaze but fluent style. Alain Goikoetxea from Bilbao Basque country did huge airs in the deepend and transferred all hips with force. Ivan Rivado also from Bilbao proofed that he became one of the best European skateboarders by pulling ollies, airs and liptricks with so much speed and souplesse. The man who has already an established name, Globe teamrider Andy Scott from Bolton England was on fire and edged it with eggplants, 360 transfers, kickflip indys, tailslides, maydays and much more to come in first. The crowd went hysterical and during the final minutes everybody stood up and did a standing ovation until it all collapsed. In the last minute all five riders crashed into each other and made clear that it was over. 5500,- Euro got divided over the 5 finalists and Andy Scott got handed over a cheque by a local grandmother. The Globe BowlBash 2006 finals were a very special international gathering. The audience witnessed supernatural acrobatics on skateboards, mental power pushing the very physical limits of the human body with style.
TV channels and magazines around the globe were at the event and will bring the Globe Bowlbash phenomena to a broad audience. The Monday after the event articles were published on the covers of National Newspapers. This weekend a one-hour show will feature on MTV and coming weeks the Globe BowlBash shows will be broadcasted on Eurosport.
